Family Eye Care & Mavor Optical in Caribou and Presque Isle, ME is a fourth-generation practice established in 1920, and we continue to be the community’s premiere choice in vision care. Our multi-lane office is integrated EHR. We have state-of-the-art clinical instrumentation to diagnose and treat ocular pathology including iScan OCT, Slit lamp video camera, Humphrey Visual Fields, Frequency Doubling Scanner, Retinal Photography, M & S Smart Systems, Auto Refractor/Keratometer, and a finishing laboratory for lens fabrication as well.
Our patients can expect a full-scope practice and that we will provide treatment for diseases and glaucoma, pediatric and geriatric optometry, amniotic membrane fittings, foreign-body removals, pre and post op care and co-management cataract surgeries, and contact lens fittings. We have a beautiful, high-end optical dispensary in both of our locations with a well-trained support staff of opticians, ocular hygienists and optometric professionals to assist with patient management.

Dr. Craig K. Small
Doctor Of Optometry, Co-Owner
Dr. Craig Small received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts with Honors. Dr. Small is a third-generation optometrist, one of only two practices in the state of Maine. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and Maine Optometric Association. Dr. Small is Board Certified and is committed to providing the highest quality of care to his patients. His professional experience includes extensive knowledge in specialty contact lens fitting, diagnosis and management of ocular diseases, ocular trauma and primary care optometry.
Jane is co-owner of Family Eye Care & Mavor Optical with her husband, Dr. Craig Small. She attended Newbury College in Boston, Massachusetts and got her degree as an optician and contact lens specialist. Jane manages the offices and overall operations and is committed to providing the highest quality of care and services to our patients at Family Eye Care & Mavor Optical.

Abby began her health care education towards her Doctorate in Optometry fall 2015 at the Massachusetts College Of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Worcester. Abby has a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Medical Biology from the University of New England. Abby is the daughter of Dr. Small & Mrs. Jane Mavor-Small and works in our practice.

Paige began her health care education towards her Doctorate in Optometry fall 2015 at the Massachusetts College Of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Worcester. Paige attended the University of Maine at Orono and majored in Medical Biology. She is the daughter of Dr. Small & Mrs. Jane Mavor-Small and works in our practice.
Shellie is our operations administrator and works on the front line of vision service at our office. She provides the highest level of quality and care, coding and billing and has a detailed knowledge of current fitting standards and modern fashion trends in eyewear available today. Shellie brings to our practice an extensive knowledge of business and is excellent with patient relations. Shellie instructs contact lens patients proper care, insertion and removal of contact lenses. She is also a certified ocular hygienist and specializes in microblepharon exfoliation.
Sue is our paraoptometric assistant and has been with our practice since 2004. She will collect information from you and enter it into your record, perform various tests prior to you seeing the doctor and provide support services to the optometrist. Sue works closely with the doctor to ensure your comprehensive eye examination is done with precision and assurance. In addition, Sue is a dispensing optician, making her an asset to cross-covering our state-of-the-art frame room.
Optometrist Assistant Specialist
Wanda specializes in assisting our doctors by collecting your health information and inputting this information into your electronic health record, which allows the doctors more time to focus on your eye health needs. Wanda serves for support with equipment and technical procedures and has knowledge of current requirements of optometry standards. Wanda’s work ethic brings our patient care to a level of excellence.
